Simulation and Validation of Cavitating Flow in a Torque Converter with Scale-Resolving Methods

The purpose of this paper is to study the mechanism and improve prediction accuracy transient torque converter cavitation flow by application scale-resolving simulation (SRS) methods with particular focus on vortex flow. Firstly, numerical analysis entire internal field was carried out using different turbulence models, hydraulic characteristics adopted models analyzed validated via test data. Secondly, behavior in were analyzed, blade surface pressure according compared through Finally, studied based stress-blended eddy (SBES) model. significantly improved SRS maximum error capacity constant, ratio efficiency are reduced 3.1%, 2.3%, 1.3% at stall, respectively. stator more prone than pump turbine. SBES model has highest multiple measurement points, deviation can reach 13.32% under stall. Attached bubbles periodic shedding be found stator, evolution period about 0.0036 s, i.e., 279 Hz. which important guiding significance for high-precision fluid machinery.
